Cord Packer

A cord packer (also called a retraction cord packer or cord packing instrument) is a dental hand instrument used to place gingival retraction cord into the gingival sulcus around a tooth before taking an impression or performing a restorative procedure.

Purpose of a Cord Packer:

To gently push the retraction cord (usually soaked in hemostatic agent) into the gingival sulcus to:

• Temporarily displace the gingiva
• Create space for clear margin visibility
• Control minor bleeding and moisture
• Improve accuracy of impressions (especially for crowns)
